I'm a Chicago guy, not an Illinois folk. People from the city consider it a distinctly different place. On that note, I would have had a great YouTube video of the amazing house I lived in on a brick street with gas street lamps and all from the 1890's, but the house was a victim to one of the great crimes of the last few years, the teardown. my neighborhood has had a particularly bad rash of it lately, and it doesn't seem like it will end soon. i read recently that New York State just surpassed Illinois as having the most teardown's per state, but this is hardly good news
